Register and make your own website : Zero knowledge

By | October 2, 2014

Today i am going to teach you how to register and make your own website with Zero knowledge of programming languages.
If you ask a website designer to create a website for you he is going to at least ask for Rs30,000 ($500) for this service. Now you can do what he does for real real cheap.
As our website mainly focuses on hacks that make lives of people better so we are first going to tell you..

Why you should have your own website?

  • If you are a person that likes making money then having a website is definitely must for you.You can earn money from your website by giving ads via Google adsense etc.
  • The main reason that it is important for businesses to have a website is how people are likely to find you.
  • If you don’t have a website that you can refer people to potential customers are going to assume that you are a small time company that does not take their business seriously.

Clearly there are still a lot of small businesses that do not have websites, there are various reasons for this but mostly it comes down to the belief that they are expensive. It is rather surprising how much small business owners believe a website will cost them. In truth a website can be built for very little money.Remember you don’t need a giant ten thousand page website for your business, just a simple site that tells people about your company and your products will be more than enough.

A little information

Ok so you have no idea where to start or make your own website.Don’t worry. We are going to do this together.

Things that are required to own a functional website-

  1. Domain name
Its basically the website name that you enter in the URL.
    Example- www.hackstories.com,www.google.com

  2. Web hosting service
Where do you live? In your home right.Like you, your website also needs a home to live in.
Thus you require a hosting package from a hosting provider so as to make a place for your website to live in.
    Example of hosting providers- www.bigrock.com

  3. WordPress
As you are not a coder therefore you will require this to manage your website.
You don’t really need to worry about this because mostly comes free with hosting.

Getting Started

1) The first thing is to register your Domain name.Use Bigrock to do this.
I use Bigrock for all my websites including www.hackstories.com
I use it mainly because i am from India and i like things that are cheap and best.
You can use any other domain registration service you want though.

Note: To get bigger preview of pictures just click on them

make your own website-domain

2)Now you have to register Web hosting service.Again use my advice and go for Bigrock.I have used a lot of hosting services and after crashing and burning for million times i had found Bigrock. It just provides a great user experience.

Now to register for hosting-
-Go to bigrock’s website
-Bring your cursor over to Get Hosting (Don’t click on it)
-Click on WordPress Hosting

make your own website-Hositng

-Now select the plan you want.If you are starting just select the starter plan.
But if you really want the website to succeed at some time you will have to upgrade to the business plan.

-It will ask whether you already have a domain name.Just enter the domain name which we registered on the very very first step of ‘getting started’.
(and untick Get SiteLock Malware detector – Rs. 948/yr thing-its useless)

-Pay for it using the option you want.

3)Now you have both the Domain name and Hosting handled. Its time to make your website.
Yeah i do realize that you don’t have much knowledge of programming and stuff. No worries because that is where WordPress steps in.

Here is what you will do.
-Log in to you cpanel (If you don’t know how to click here)
-Setup WordPress Blog on your Hosting  (If you don’t know how to click here.)

The installation will take a couple of minutes and you’re done. You will see your WordPress details right in front of your screen.

Your website should be up and running now.
Now you have to do two very important things.

  • Remove Default Content

WordPress comes with a bit of “sample” content that you really have no need for. The first thing I do is get rid of it. Here’s what to do:

  1. Go to the Posts section and select “All Posts.” Hover over the title that says “Hello World” and a small menu will appear beneath the title. Click delete. One gone.
  2. Next click “Links” (it’s just below “Media” on your left). Select the checkbox at the top right corner of the list to select all the links. The choose delete from the drop down menu of actions at the top. Now you have removed all the WordPress links.
  3. Lastly, click on “Pages” and hover over the title “Sample Page” just you did with “Hello World” and delete that too.

You just successfully removed all your unnecessary content.

  • Install Theme

Now that I have a clean slate and some basic functionality, I’m ready to add in my theme. To install a WordPress theme, go to “Appearance” and click on “Themes.” At the top you’ll see a tab labeled “Install Themes.” Click on that. You can search for free themes from WordPress.org or you can install your own. To do that click “Upload” and then browse for the theme file you downloaded. Install and activate the theme.

Most likely your theme will have some options to set. Generally these can be found also in the “Appearance” section usually labeled something like “Theme Options.” You can go on and set these now or work with those later.

All Finished

Now that those housekeeping matters are behind me, You are ready to start working on content. Our fresh WordPress set-up is primed and ready for action.

Do you have anything you do with just about every WordPress installation that I left out? Share it with us in the comments.
